Imagine, for a moment, a miracle.
Imagine if you could watch a television show AFTER it was aired! Any time you wanted to!
In this day of DVR’s, we’ve grown used to watching our programs any time we want to. But once upon a time, we watched what was on at the time. And if you fell asleep, or if the doorbell rang, your only option was to catch the rerun.
That all changed with the 1975 introduction of the Sony Betamax.


I saw my first VCR in action in 1977. It was pretty amazing watching a baseball game from last Saturday several days later.
By 1985, practically every home in America had one. We said goodbye forever to missing our favorite programs. WGN was showing an episode of Hill Street Blues every night, and I would tape them and watch them all on Friday night. Life was good.
Today’s FamilyFirst site is an ifilm presentation of a Betamax promotional video from 1975. It introduced viewers to the amazing concept of watching a show while taping another.
Hey, that was big stuff in the decade that began with the Vietnam War still raging, the Beatles still together, and gas up to a shocking 60 cents a gallon.
